Your Questions

We’ve put together some helpful answers to some of the regular questions we get on  HomeSwapper Ireland.

Getting Started

Click “Register” in the top right-hand corner then follow the simple steps to complete your registration.

The service is completely free of charge, although please be aware your Local Authority will need to approve the application before you have full access.

If you can fill in as much information as possible about your home and the home you are looking for, the system will be able to match you with your ideal properties automatically.

While your account is waiting for approval from your Local Authority, your access will be restricted.

The approval process is handled by the Dublin housing team and not HomeSwapper. This means that there’s not much we can do from our end, but we’d recommend getting in touch with your Local Authority directly if you’ve been waiting more than two weeks for approval.

My Account

If you’ve forgotten your password, don’t worry it’s easy to reset it. There are two options:

  1. When you go to the login page of, underneath the boxes for username and password, you’ll see a prompt that says, ‘Forgot your password?’. By clicking on this you’ll be taken through the steps to reset your password using the email address you used to setup your HomeSwapper account.
  2. If you signed up using a username, rather than an email address then you’ll need to get in touch with our Help Desk at They will reset your password for you and send you the new details. You’ll need to login in once you have them and change the password to something more personal to you. You can do this by going to ‘My details’ and then ‘My account’ in the menus on your Dashboard.

To change your password:

  • Log in to
  • Go to “My details” and then “My account”
  • Click on “Change Password”
  • Put in your current password and the new password you want to use

To change your email address (and username):

  • Log in to
  • Go to “My details” and then “My account”
  • Click on Change Email Address
  • Put in your current password and then confirm your new email address to update

Closing your account / Found a swap!

When you have someone to swap with simply log in to and click on the “Found a swap?” button on your dashboard. You’ll then be asked to enter some information about the home you want to swap to and your request will be sent to your Local Authority to review.

Please note: your Local Authority will only consider you for a swap if:

  • The other person has agreed to swap with you
  • You have both visited each other’s homes
  • Neither you or the other person has any outstanding arrears

To close your account:

  • Log in to
  • Go to “My details” and then “My account”
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Close my account”
  • Alternatively, you can click on the “Close your account” button on your dashboard.
